This is more common in American English.

  • Plural sense (members acting individually):
The committee plan to announce the results tomorrow.
This usage appears more in British English.

C. reviewing

As you know, I passed my intermediate examination with distinction and had to choose a profession. I consulted my elders, teachers, and also considered my own interests.

As you asked about my career choice, I would like to tell you that I have decided to choose Public Administration. For this purpose, I have applied for admission to a well-known university in Pakistan for a BS degree.

After completing my degree, I plan to attempt the CSS examination. Though it is challenging, I believe that with hard work I will succeed. After carefully considering everything, I have finally chosen this field.

Please convey my compliments to your uncle and your younger siblings.

Yours sincerely.

Q.6. Write a story on the moral “Avoid fair-weather friends. (10)

Title: Three Friends and a Bag of Gold

Once there lived two friends in a village. They were fast friends and claimed to be sincere with each other. One of them was strong, active and tall, while the other was short, weak and thin. One day, they set out on a journey to try their luck. When they were making their way through a jungle, they saw a bear coming towards them from a distance. They were very frightened. The tall friend, without showing any concern for his friend, ran, climbed up a tree and concealed himself in the branches. He did not stop to help his friend.

The other friend was quite helpless in this critical situation. Suddenly, he remembered a saying that the bears don’t eat the dead. He held his breath and lay down on the ground immediately and feigned to be dead. The bear approached there, sniffed him, considered him to be dead and went his way. Soon, the bear was out of sight. The tall friend climbed down the tree, came to his friend and asked him jokingly what the bear had whispered in his ears. The other friend said that the bear had advised to beware of selfish and insincere friends. Then he said goodbye to his selfish friend and continued his journey alone.

Morals: Avoid fair-weather friends

A friend in need is a friend indeed

(a)    Explain the following lines with reference to the context (05)

Than Oars divide the Ocean,
Too silver for a seam—
Or Butterflies, off Banks of Noon
Leap, plashless as they swim.

Reference:
This stanza has been taken from “A Bird Came Down the Walk,” written by Emily Dickinson

Context:
Emily Dickinson often noticed small, quiet details in nature. This poem shows her usual style — careful observation, clear images, and thoughts about life and how humans connect with nature. She probably wrote it while watching animals in her garden or the nearby surroundings.

Explanation:

The poet, in the spontaneous overflow of his powerful emotions, observes a bird in its natural surroundings, noticing its actions and behaviour. The bird eats a worm, drinks dew, and carefully avoids disturbing other creatures, showing both the harshness and harmony of nature. Its alertness and delicate beauty contrast with its predatory side. When sensing danger, the bird flies away smoothly, like oars rowing a boat. The language of the poem is simple, lucid, profound, and thought-provoking. Both the implicit and explicit meanings encourage  the reader to imagine and reflect.

Despite the challenges of orphanhood, Rasoolullah (خاُتمالنبیینﷺ) grew into a young man of exceptional character. He (ﷺ خاُتمالنبیین) was known for his truthfulness, humility, generosity, and sense of justice. His (خاُتمالنبیینﷺ) interactions reflected integrity and gentleness, and he engaged in trade with honesty and fairness. These qualities earned him (ﷺ خاُتمالنبیین) universal respect among the people of Makkah, who bestowed upon him (خاُتمالنبیینﷺ) the titles Al-Sadiq (The Truthful) and Al-Amin (The Trustworthy).

Alternate question for foreign / English medium candidates: Write a paragraph on “Basant”.

Basant is a colourful spring festival celebrated in parts of South Asia, especially in Lahore, the central Punjab. It marks the arrival of spring after the cold winter season. On this day, people wear bright yellow clothes, decorate their houses, and fly kites of different colours on rooftops. The sky becomes full of kites of different colours and shapes, creating a joyful scene. Friends and families gather together, enjoy traditional foods, and take part in kite-flying competitions. Basant symbolises happiness, renewal, and the beauty of nature as flowers begin to bloom and the weather becomes pleasant. Although the festival is loved for its lively atmosphere, safety precautions are also important during celebrations, so that it leaves no grievance.
